Further afield
Literally the “Five Lands” or “Five Villages” this part of the Tuscan coast is truly enchanting.
Clinging to a rugged coastline of dramatic cliffs, the five villages provide a glimpse of traditional Italian life with castles, hilltop monasteries, secluded valleys, intimate beaches, great restaurants, and some of the clearest water you will ever see.
The area is ideal for hiking with miles of trails hugging the cliffs and traversing the tops. Find out more about hiking and trekking in Cinque Terre
If you fancy venturing even further afield, for as little as € 60 you can take your car on the ferry to the Island of Elba. This sleepy, tranquil island was the home of Napoleon during his first exile.
Visit Napolean’s palace or his summer hose, laze on the beautiful sandy beaches, swim, snorkel, or scuba dive in the clear blue waters, or hike to the top of Monte Capanne, and enjoy a panoramic view of mainland of Italy and the islands of Corsica, Capraia, Pianosa and Monte Cristo.
